POM Course Exam Papers 

Purpose of this post is to help IM 19 students for POM Final examination to be held on Sep 10th.. by providing details about the structure of  forthcoming examination . In this blog post,  previous  years POM final  questions papers ( 2008, 2009, and 2011)  are provided for  reference and preparation. 

Intention in giving these sets of question papers is:

- To make the students  aware of the POM exam. 
- Help the students to prepare well on POM subject

Intention is NOT.. at all to provide any guess questions to you.. - These questions do not provide any hint of the forthcoming exam.  

Students are advised  to prepare answers for the questions. Students may also post answers to the questions  in their blogs for better understanding and learning. 

Your answer must reflect the following:
  • You literally know the POM concept + 
  • Your capability and understanding  of applying  the POM concept + 
  • Narrating the implications of the POM concepts for application in given situations and cases
  • Recalling your account of   POM concepts occurrence  in your own work life so far
  • Write your answers  neat and legible and cogent  - This is important. Note that the POM teacher will have the burden of assessing your papers - 140 student sheets @ 12 pages each .  If you throw some shabby  answers .. You will be returned the same..
  • There is  negative marking for Nonsense answers, irrelevant answers and guess answers. If you know it write the answer.. Otherwise, it is better NOT to venture to guess and write the answer.
 Scoring in this exam depends on how well you SELL your answers to the assessor. 

It is up to you how you do this task. OK.

Principles of Organization and Management –
  Attempt any SEVEN  questions.  

1.      Explain the following with illustrious.

Ø  Systems of view of Organizations
Ø  Matrix structures
2.      Explain  how the  concepts viz.,  Achievable goals, and Realistic Goals contribute to Excellence in Performance ? (Use pictorial diagrams in explaining these concepts ). Explain how an understanding of these concepts can lead to higher performance in tower building exercise?

3.      Explain the concepts – 1. division of labor, 2. departmentation, 3. coordination, 4. differentiation and integration.
Discuss the implications of these concepts with the help of TWO contrasting examples of Organizational Structures. Use pictorials and drawings to explain the concepts.
4.      Explain the concept of ‘Problem Recognition ’ as you experienced in ‘removing the ring’ exercise that you participated ?  Explain  how do you apply four basic stages in the rational model of decision making method to removing the ring exercise ?


5.      Discuss in detail Theory X and Theory Y.  What are the  FOUR important learning’s for a upcoming manager like you ?
What is your advice  to a manager who laments “My subordinates are useless people. They cannot understand what I say. They are Slow”  
6.      Explain in detail - ‘Excellence = Efficiency X Effectiveness’.
Discuss the relevance of this principle as applied to a corporate case like ‘Khan Academy. Com’?
7.      Differentiate the two concepts ‘Leadership and Motivation’ ? Explain the importance of leadership and motivation as applied to Tower Building exercise to achieve higher performance . List your learning with reference to the concepts.

8.      What is meant by ‘Performance Excellence’ as applied to Three people crossing the valley  ?  Draw and explain the detailed work plan for Valley Crossing . Identify and explain THREE  critical factors  in implementation of  Valley Crossing work plan

9.      Teamwork necessarily contributes to higher productivity and improved  human conditions in organizations.  With reference to Three monks and Water story , measure and evaluate the changes in ‘Productivity’ across various methods of working the monks followed.
Compare and contrast human conditions the work systems could achieve across various methods.
